When people see “free 20-minute strategy session,” they assume it’s a 20-minute infomercial. I get it.
That’s not what this is.
When you book a 20-minute strategy session with me, you’re signing up for a short, focused conversation where you bring the questions you’ve been carrying around, and I help you get unstuck.
That’s really it. Because sometimes that’s all you need.
And if we get through 20 minutes and you’re done, I’m not going to pitch you. This is not a timeshare presentation in disguise.
Most people come to me for a strategy session because they’ve built up a backlog of unsatisfying sort-of answers.
They’ve tried their accountant. They’ve tried the “ask a friend” route. They’ve tried to Google it. And the questions keep sitting there, taking up space in their brain. So they show up and say, “I don’t know who the right person is for these questions, but I think it might be you.”
That’s why I think of this strategy session a bit like business urgent care.
Maybe you’re not in crisis, but you likely need some help in the triage department. That’s where I can help you by looking at what’s going on and (to the best of my ability) say, “Okay. Here’s what matters. Here’s what doesn’t. Here’s the next step.”
What happens in our 20 minutes together
You might be surprised how much we can get through in such a short time.
But I always begin the conversation with the same questions:
“What brought you here today? What are you trying to get resolved? What’s going on?”
Then we focus on whatever your answer is.
Sometimes people come in with a handful of questions they’ve been sitting on for years. We run them down quickly, they get clarity, and they’re done. Sometimes they come in with one question, and once we start talking, a couple bigger things come up as they get more comfortable. That’s normal.
And sometimes you finish and say, “That’s all the questions I have. Thanks.” That’s great! I’ll say, “Cool. If this comes up again, jump on another call.”
Will I try to sell you anything during our conversation?
Again, this strategy session is not a trap. I’m not trying to fit you into a program (because I don’t have one). I’m not trying to back you into a paid engagement in 20 minutes. I’m going to spend the time answering your questions.
Now, if your questions point to something bigger and it looks like the kind of problem I could solve through consulting, I’ll tell you that. We can talk about it on a separate call, or we can keep it moving. If you’re not interested, I’m not going to force it.
How to prep for your strategy session to get the most value
If you feel comfortable, put your questions into the intake questionnaire when you book. If not, come in with your questions written down. Be as specific as you can.
If your questions involve money, it helps if you know a couple of basic numbers.
I won’t judge you for whatever those numbers may be. But numbers are helpful because it gives us more precision. If you don’t know them, we’ll still work with what you have. And if the answer really depends on a number you need to look up, I can give you an “if / then” frame so you know what to do once you find it.
A simple way to prep is to jot down:
- What decision are you trying to make right now
- What have you already tried
- What’s confusing or stuck
- Any numbers that matter (revenue, profit, costs), if you know them
Why are you doing a strategy session for free?
This part surprises people.
I offer it this way because I cover a wide range of topics and questions, and most people just need a little help to get past the stuck point. I’d rather help you get it right than spend our time figuring out how you’re going to pay me before I can help.
Also, my business is not designed to have 200 small clients.
I want a few clients I can work with really deeply.
But I also don’t want to let people sink before they get there. Sometimes one short conversation is the difference between you making an actionable decision and you spinning for another six months.
And honestly, the free format works better. Once people pay for a short call, they tend to want follow-ups and notes and extra time. When it’s free, we do the thing we came to do. People leave feeling helped. Five-star experience. Good vibes.
Still wondering whether it’s worth it?
If you have questions you can’t get answered, and they’re taking up brain space, it’s worth it. Bring the questions. We’ll triage them. You’ll leave with clarity, or you’ll leave knowing exactly what kind of person you actually need and whether you already have them in your world.
